What was the surprise of the collector who in the seventies found innocent in a box of books Second-hand eight engravings of William Blake, dedicated to illustrating three of his works. These small pictures, which were bought by the Tate group earlier this year, are now part of the new exhibition at the Tate Britain in London, dedicated to the Romantic artists.
Many drawings and engravings by Blake are really disturbing, with those demons and form urine so characteristic of British poet. The style of some of them simple and defined lines, seems to be the precursor of the comics. Although I could not find references (memory write), I remember last year when I was at the Tate Britain had a special room devoted to the drawings of Blake. A work in particular caught my attention, a watercolor (I think) landscape on which was a landscape with trees whose lines reminded me of Giraud in Lieutenant Blueberry.
no doubt that these prints are a wonderful discovery of a versatile and eccentric artist, who, to give an example of his peculiar behavior, liked to sit naked with his wife in the garden of his house to read Milton.
